Once again, the Friends of Memorial Circle are in need of your help. For over 30 years our group has been the overseers of the care of the area, and we depend on the support of the community to help us keep the area in pristine condition. After the ladies of the Belle Harbor Garden Club established the memorial after World War II and turned it over to the Parks Department, it fell into disrepair. Local residents battled the weeds, dog feces, broken bottles and garbage to bring the sight back to its former glory. We laugh about it now, but it was no joke.
It costs about $4,000/year now for us to maintain the area with a gardener, sprinkler system and garden supplies. Donations may be made to: Friends of Memorial Circle, PO Box 940174, Rockaway Park, NY 11694 or Venmo, @mowo119.
