High Tide
We hope everyone enjoyed the long Fourth of July Weekend!
*****
All week the city has been covered with a thick blanket of humidity. The beautiful weather we saw all summer before this week has come and gone and we can only pray for its return.

Get out there with your flag and cheer on our wounded veterans tonight, July 11, at about 6:30 p.m. as Hope for the Warriors comes to the peninsula. The heroes will be welcomed into town for their weekend of fun with a procession over the Marine Parkway Bridge, down Rockaway Beach Blvd., and then back down Beach Channel Drive to Breezy Point. If you are traveling to the peninsula tonight, keep in mind that, due to the procession, there should be some closures and delays expected around Flatbush Ave. and the Belt Parkway around that time.

The Third Annual Timmy Klein Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held this Saturday, July 13, starting at 9 a.m. The tournament, held in honor of fallen firefighter and friend of many across the peninsula, Timmy Klein, who gave his life at a fire just over two years ago, will take place on Beach 127th to Beach 132nd. All proceeds raised on Saturday go to the Timothy P Klein Foundation. Head out there and watch some great volleyball in honor of Timmy. It is always an awesome day at the beach.

Pizza on the Point made some waves this week when they released a new shirt featuring the face of the alleged Gilgo Beach murderer, Rex Heuermann. The shirt shows Heuermann’s face with the caption: “The pizza is amazing!! … But make sure you finish the crust!! – Rex Heuermann, Gilgo Pizza Connoisseur.” The alleged serial killer was infamously caught partly through DNA evidence found on uneaten and discarded pizza crust. Reviews of the shirts were mixed with some thinking the shirt went a little too far, too soon and the more easygoing on the point finding it to be all in good fun. The story of the shirts made such a splash it was picked by several major outlets, including the New York Post. That’s some marketing!
