Introducing our Intern Katie
I am so excited to continue my journey as a writer by interning here at The Rockaway Times. Writing, especially creative writing, has always been my passion ever since I was a little girl! Stories and characters would suddenly spark inside my brain, and I would immediately write down everything I thought of. The flow was unstoppable once inspiration had struck, and it was that same inspiration that got me published in the Library of Congress!
Shortly after my family and I had moved into the Rockaway peninsula, Hurricane Sandy hit, and we temporarily relocated to the Bronx for proper schooling and housing. After a year and a half there, we moved back to the Rockaways, and it has since become our permanent home.
Once we had resettled in the year 2014, I was taken for an interview at the prestigious Scholars’ Academy where I started eighth grade and finished my high school education in the year 2019. All those years, I had gotten to know many teachers and students who were all so polite and courteous to me as I shyly made my way through their hallways.
It was the same place where I was able to make so much social progress because the me who started there was not the same me that finished there! Since college was not my desired plan post-graduation, I made great efforts to pursue my passions and dream of becoming a writer despite it. Now I am an intern at The Rockaway Times, and the thought of that makes me so happy! The next time you see me, I’ll be around with a bright smile on my face asking you some questions…
