JBRPC and NYC Plover Project Host Shoreline Cleanup

On Sunday, November 19, the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and NYC Plover Project hosted a shoreline cleanup at the Rockaway Community Park in Edgemere. JBRPC and NYC Plover Project volunteers were joined by members of Garden by the Bay and Edgemere Alliance.
Several dozen neighbors and volunteers gave up their morning to help pick up plastic and other trash along the bayside shoreline, which is part of NYC Parks, and a year-round habitat for many species of birds and other wildlife.
The crew removed more than 260 pounds of debris off the shorelines and surrounding parkland at Rockaway Community Park. This adds to more than 2,700 pounds of trash removed since the start of the November Cleansweep Series, an end-of-the-year volunteer-led cleanup effort supported by NYC Ferry, Con Edison, NYS Assemblymember Stacey Pheffer Amato, NYC Councilmember Joann Ariola, NYC Councilmember Selvena Brooks-Powers, Gateway National Recreation Area – National Park Service and NYC Parks & Recreation.
