SFDS 6th Grade Girls Clinch Championship

This past Sunday, February 23, at McClancy High School, the sixth-grade girls St. Francis de Sales basketball team defeated IMAAC in a double overtime win to clinch the Brooklyn – Queens Diocesan Championship. For some players, this was their third Diocesan win in the last three years.

The crowd erupted when the buzzer went off. Some said this was the best game they have witnessed in a long time. The final score was 35-33. The team played amazing defense and played well under pressure. The ladies remained very poised throughout the game, and all players contributed in major ways. Leading the way was Mara Brady and Ava Masullo in points, and key defense from Kayla Egan and Mackenzie Capek, and a major basket from Kristen Brenna to secure the lead.

The team has worked extremely hard all season long and have grown together. The coaches, Kerry Brady, Courtney McCool, and Mike Brenna, are so proud of the team’s performance, and what they achieved throughout the season. Their record was 12-1 with only one loss by one point. The family and friends that came to show support all season long and especially on Sunday was awesome. These ladies worked very hard all season to earn this Chip!
