St. Camillus / St. Virgilius MVP’s of the Week
By Bill Swensen
The St. Camillus/ St. Virgilius basketball program is underway with 150 local kids from 4th grade to 8th grade, playing in the Girls and Boys leagues. Here are some standout players this week.
Maggie Palisi
Girls League
Maggie scored 21 of her team’s 48 points. She kills it on the defensive boards and then is just unstoppable after she rips down a rebound and goes coast to coast for a score. In the half-court, she’s just as good. She can dish when someone’s open and she’s a deadly shooter when it’s her time to shoot. Her attitude on and off the court is a model for all the kids in the league.
Brandon Cervallos
Junior Boys League
Brandon poured in 25 of his team’s 42 points. He led his team to the most exciting victory of the night. His team had the lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the opposing team managed to come back, tie the game, and send it into overtime. This is when Brandon just totally took over. He dominated the overtime period with critical baskets, and then calmly drained the key foul shots that put the game away.
Marco Melli
Senior Boys League
Marco dropped 18 points in another exciting game that ended in a two-point decision. Marco is a strong player who does his damage on the inside. He’s just too strong and too slick to be stopped once he gets near the basket. With his team trailing by 5 heading into the fourth quarter, he did every possible to get his team back in the game. Despite his valiant effort, his team fell just short and lost by two.
