Stop the Closure

Dear Editor:

This March, the Neponsit Adult Day Heath Care Center is scheduled to shut down their day services, displacing dozens of our community’s most vulnerable members. This closure will be devastating for seniors who depend on the service for socialization, nutrition and medical care. Our elderly parents and grandparents desperately need a safe place on the peninsula where they will receive the care they need. At the Center, they are able to socialize and participate in exercise, art projects and day trips. They can receive physical therapy if needed. They are given healthy, nutritional meals. Seniors will be isolated at home without the stimulation and companionship of their peers. The seniors in our community have been there for us our entire lives – veterans, teachers, firefighters, caregivers. They deserve the dignity of a safe and fulfilling life and we have a responsibility to fight for them. Please let our local politicians know that Rockaway needs the Neponsit Adult Day Health Care Center.
