Full Hunter’s Moon Hike
On Friday, October 18 at 6 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a full moon hike. Hear about a traditional name for this moon and look for signs of the story it represents. All ages welcome. All-weather walk, so dress for the conditions. Bring your own flashlights or headlamps.
Stargazing with Garden by the Bay
On Friday, October 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to the Arverne East Welcome Center (190 Beach 44th Street) for a night of stargazing with the Amateur Astronomers Association. Cancelled if raining.
Sandy Anniversary Cleanup & Planting
On Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to the boardwalk at Beach 44th Street to join RISE to clean up the shoreline and create a natural protective barrier for the Rockaway community. Students can receive community service hours. Rain or shine, so dress accordingly.
Hawk Watch
On Saturday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m. head to Battery Harris in Fort Tilden to join a park ranger for the chance to see birds of prey like osprey, pelegrine falcons, and bald eagles as they fly overhead during the peak fall migration. Learn to ID them by silhouette and at rest.

Far Rockaway Cancer & DV Walk
On Sunday, October 20, head to the Beach 17th Street bandshell for the 7th Annual Trina Williams Far Rockaway Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Walk. Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Beach 17th. Program begins at 8:30 a.m. Walk begins at 9:30 a.m., heads to Beach 73rd Street and turns back to Beach 17th Street, with the closing program at 12:30 p.m. Pre-register at: www.bit.ly/2024farrockcancerwalk
Fall Freedom Fest
On Saturday, October 19 from 12 p.m. until night, enjoy a day of live music, DJs, food and fun around Beach 129th Street. A $20 bracelet can be purchased at Harbor Light, Jamesons, Callie’s, Paninico Rustico or Pico.
Run Rockaway Marathon, Half & 5K
On Saturday, October 26, Rockaway Track Club is hosting the Run Rockaway Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K. Registration and bib pickup begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Beach 94th Amphitheater. Marathon first wave starts at 6:30 a.m. Second wave at 8 a.m. Half marathon and 5K start at 8 a.m. Pre-register and more info at: www.rockawaytc.org
Dog Halloween
Party
On Saturday, October 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., stop by Rockaway Freeway Dog Park on Beach 83rd and Beach Channel Drive with your costumed pet for some Halloween fun. Costume contest judging at 3 p.m. Plus doggie trick or treat station, dog arts and crafts, raffles, photo booth and more.

Teen Street
On Saturday, October 26 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., teens ages 11-18 are welcome to the Rockaway YMCA (207 Beach 73rd Street) for a night of food, games and basketball contests.
