Parks & Public Safety Committee Meeting

On Thursday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m., head to the Arverne East Nature Preserve Center (190 Beach 44th Street) for a CB14 Parks committee meeting with new Rockaway Administrator Elizabeth Walsack. Discuss the new amplified sound policy, new bike policy for the boardwalk, permit policy changes, summer plan and more.

 

Arverne East Nature Preserve Cleanup

On Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m. head to the Arverne East Nature Preserve at 190 Beach 44th Street to help NYC Parks pick up trash and clean up the area.

 

Reachin’ the Sky: Aviation Pioneers

On Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m., head to Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field to join Ranger Flor for an in depth look at aviation pioneers and the obstacles they overcame in order to make history. Pilots like Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post and others faced a lot of scrutiny in their quest to earn their “wings.” Discover the lasting legacy of these aviation pioneers.

 

Stop the Summer Bike Ban Press Conference

On Saturday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m., head to the Beach 94th Street boardwalk for a rally and press conference against Parks’ impending rules banning bikes from Beach 73rd to Beach 108th after 9:30 a.m.

 

Bird Walk for Beginners

On Sunday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a ranger on this birding for beginners walk around West Pond. All skill levels welcomed; binoculars provided. Dress for the weather.

 

Walk for Autism

On Sunday, April 27 at 11 a.m., head to the Beach 94th Street boardwalk for Rockaway Beach Autism Family’s third annual Walk for Autism. Walk to Beach 116th and back to Beach 94th for a vendor fair and after party.

 

100th Precinct Community Council

On Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the 100th Precinct Community Council meeting. Hear updates from the NYPD and ask questions.

 

Belle Harbor Beach Cleanup

On Saturday, May 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to the beach wall at Beach 134th Street to join the Belle Harbor Property Owners Association in a beach cleanup. Bring a rake if you have one. Service credit hours available.

 

Sail Rockaway Opening Party

On Saturday, May 3 from 2 p.m. until dark, head to Marina 59 on Beach 59th Street and the bay for their season opening party. Free sailing tours and lessons, live jazz and $1 oysters. Family friendly.

 

Art Exhibition: Noticin’

On weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for Noticin’, an art exhibit joyfully exposing Jamaica Bay’s shoreline clutter.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays through May 3, at 11 a.m., head to the Far Rockaway Library (1637 Central Ave.) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Chair Movement Class

On Monday and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., head to Temple Beth-El (201 Beach 121st Street) for Chair Movement class, stretching and strengthening for your whole body. Donation based.

 

Cardio Punch

On Thursdays through May 1, at 6 p.m., head to the Arverne meeting room (312 Beach 54th Street) to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all.

 

Uplifted Dance Fitness

On Mondays and Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m.., head to the Beach 32nd Street Football Field (Beach 32nd and the boardwalk) for a free dance workout class with Miss Dawn.
