10th Annual Hip-Hop Halloween & Harvest Celebration

On Saturday, October 14, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard) for the 10th Annual Hip-Hop Halloween & Harvest Celebration, as we celebrate with family and friends in Rockaway Hip-Hop Community Garden. Come and take part in decorating pumpkins, face painting, music, dancing, festive food, and more! Free and open to all!

 

Art Workshop: Printmaking

On Saturday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 60th Street & Rockaway Freeway, under the elevated A-train tracks where Kevin Sudeith will host a printmaking workshop. Sudeith infuses petroglyphs, an ancient art form of stone carving, with contemporary life. Registration is encouraged at: www.riserockaway.org/rise/events/

 

Local Filmmakers Showcase

On October 14, 17 and 18, the Rockaway Film Fest hosts a local filmmakers showcase with films by Rockaway talent. On October 14 at 5 p.m., head to the Rockaway Artists Alliance in Fort Tilden for the first screening, October 17 and October 18 at 7 p.m. at the Rockaway Brewing Co. on Beach 72nd Street.

 

Raptorama!

On Sunday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to learn all about the hawks and owls of Jamaica Bay. See some of these amazing raptors during a live demonstration and go on walks with experts to get a look at hawk species flying south for the winter.

 

Beach 116th Fall Festival

On Sunday, October 15 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to Beach 116th Street to enjoy a day of fall family fun on Beach 116th Street. Live music, food, giveaways, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, rock climb wall and more.

 

Master Fitness™

On Monday, October 16, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard) as Ann Fosteris leads this free fitness class. All ages and fitness levels welcome.

 

Core on the Floor

On Monday, October 16 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard) for a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body and led by Ann Fosteris of Fitness to You. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels welcome!

 

JASA Weekly Arts

On Thursdays at 10 a.m., adults 60+ are welcome to JASA Rockaway Park Older Adult Center (106-20 Shore Front Parkway) for weekly painting/arts and crafts. Let your creativity be free! To RSVP and for more details, call: 718-634-3044.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to the boardwalk at Beach 60th Street for this total body, non-contact workout. Punch, hook, and kick to motivating, high-energy music that progress into heart-pumping combinations.

 

Market Street @ Beach 60th

On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 60th and Rockaway Freeway to listen to live music by Brian Smith and buy from local farmers and vendors.

 

Chair Movement Class

On Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., head to Temple Beth-El on Beach 121st Street for a Chair Movement Class led by Christine Walker. Donation based.

 

Aging Mastery Program

National Council on Aging in Collaboration with Kingsborough Community College presents “Aging Mastery Program” FREE online zoom program for 10 weeks on Tuesdays from 10/17 to 12/19 from 3:30- 5 p.m.  Learn about: Navigating Longer Lives, Exercise & You, Sleep, Healthy Eating and Hydration, Financial Fitness, Medication Management, Advance Planning, Healthy Relationships, Fall Prevention, Community Engagement and more!  Free material kit funded by Joann Ariola for residents 50+.
