On Friday, December 8 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to St. Rose of Lima (154 Beach 84th Street) to shop from more than 40 vendors. Plus enjoy face painting, raffles and more.

Waterside Holiday Makers Market

On Saturday, December 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Waterside School (140 Beach 112th) to shop from local vendors. Help support the school while shopping, enjoying face painting, arts and crafts, raffles and more.

Winter Bird Walk

On Saturday, December 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a delightful and educational adventure with NYC Plover Project for a winter bird walk. Please dress for the weather. Registration is required at www.riserockaway.org .

Junior Ranger Hike

On Saturday, December 9 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join Ranger Zach for a walk around one of the trails. Children will use their different senses as we explore all that the refuge has to offer. Program followed by an official Jr. Ranger “swear-in” ceremony. This is an all-weather walk, so please dress for the conditions.

BC Christmas Tree Lighting

On Saturday, December 9 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., head to the BCAC Memorial Field for a winter wonderland Christmas tree lighting. Free hot cocoa, a visit from Santa, letter writing, storybook reading with Mrs. Claus, performances and more.

Geminids Meteor Shower

On Saturday, December 9 at 6 p.m., head to Beach 44th and the boardwalk to join an Urban Park Ranger to view The Geminids, one of the best meteor showers in the heavens, producing up to 120 multicolored meteors per hour at its peak. Astronomy programs feature the use of telescopes and binoculars.

On Sunday, December 10 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., head to The Rockaway Hotel on Beach 108th Street to shop from more than 30 local vendors.

Community Board 14

On Tuesday, December 12 at 7:15 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly community board meeting. If public speaking, show up early to sign up.

St. John’s Coping With the Holidays

Core on the Floor

On Mondays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body and led by Ann Fosteris of Fitness to You. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels welcome!

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ruth Graves, certified yoga instructor, teaches a free 45-minute chair yoga class. Beginners to seasoned practitioners are welcome!
