Playoff Guide for the Girlies

It’s October, and you know what that means? No, I’m not talking about football this week. I am talking about playoff baseball.
The other day, I heard someone ask, “If the Yankees win this game, are they going to the World Series?” So, I think it’s important to give a little background for the girlies—and anyone else who needs it—so we all know where we’re really at.
Here’s the simple breakdown: There are two different leagues, the National League and the American League.
Currently in the American League, the New York Yankees are facing the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Detroit Tigers are taking on the Seattle Mariners in the Divisional Series. Whoever wins the best of five in those two series will then play each other in the American League Championship Series (ALCS). Finally, the winner of the ALCS gets to go to the World Series to represent the American League.
The National League works the same way. The LA Dodgers are battling the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Chicago Cubs are playing the Milwaukee Brewers. Whoever wins their divisional series will play for the National League Championship, and that winner will represent the National League in the World Series.
All that to say, girls, we have a while to go before baseball season comes to an end.
I assume everyone has watched the last three Yankees games. Let’s just say, the first two were brutal. You could have easily turned the game off after the first few innings and only missed a flurry of Blue Jay home runs. They were not pretty.
Game 3 was held in the Bronx, which brought some much-needed hope. It was a true do-or-die game. Luckily, Aaron Judge came through with a game-tying three-run home run! That play gave the Yankees serious momentum, and they ended up winning the game 9-6 against the Blue Jays.
As of the time this paper went to press, Toronto leads the series 2-1. (Future readers: don’t tell me what happens in Game 4!) Right now, Yankees fans are full of hope. It’s the best place to be, as a sports fan—excited for the game ahead and beaming with optimism.
I know you, dear readers, already know what happened in Game 4, and that is driving me nuts! Hopefully, you’re all ecstatic with a series tie and ready to see the team head back to Toronto with some real grit.
Yankees fan or not, October baseball is here, and it’s time to enjoy the ride.
