 High Tide

Tomorrow, Friday, April 24, marks four years since the loss of FF Timmy Klein. It’s hard to believe it has already been four years. Rockaway will never forget Timmy, his sacrifice, and everything he stood for. On Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m., the Timmy Klein Foundation will host the 4th Annual TK Country Fest at The Rockaway Hotel to celebrate Timmy’s life. For tickets, visit www.countryswag.com/TKFEST26

As we go to press, the New York Mets—owners of the second-highest payroll in baseball—have dropped 12 straight games. Some are blaming the Amazin’s woes on a recent interaction between Mayor Mamdani and Mr. Met, the team’s beloved mascot. We’re not ones to believe in wild theories, but it might not be the worst idea for Hizzoner to keep his distance from the New York Knicks until the playoffs are over.

We love seeing new businesses open on the peninsula. Welcome to Banh Mi Bubble Café (421A Beach 129th Street) and Rockaway’s Soul Kitchen (264 Beach 116th Street), both now open. Based on early reviews, they look like fantastic additions to the neighborhood. Congratulations, and best of luck!

Thank you to everyone who submitted photos for this year’s Rockaway Times Photo Contest. We received several hundred entries! Our sage and hardworking judges now have the arduous task of narrowing them down to a top 30. The quality of submissions this year has been outstanding. The top 30 photos will be displayed along the boardwalk, with five honorable mentions featured at the ferry landing.
