Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato presented a New York State Proclamation to the Rockaway Fisheads Rugby Club at the team’s annual dinner to commemorate their 50th anniversary on July 27. The team is a competitive New York City Division III club playing in the Metro N.Y. Rugby Football Union, with their home field in Gateway National Recreation Area, Fort Tilden Unit.

During the award ceremony at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club, Pheffer Amato praised the current players, along with original players and founders, who have contributed to the team’s numerous Metropolitan New York Rugby Union league titles. The Assemblywoman read the proclamation out loud, resulting in cheering and applause, especially when highlighting their renowned Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day tent extravaganza where camaraderie, fun and boisterous hijinks have helped them fundraise for the community.

“Congratulations to our amazing players and fabulous coaches on a great season. You make the Rockaways proud every day,” the Assemblywoman said. “The men who have been on this team have helped ingrain the Fisheads into Rockaway culture. It’s an honor to present you with this proclamation and celebrate your 50th anniversary. This team is a staple of this community, and I cannot wait to see all the fun and victories that are in store for this team over the next 50 years.”
