Brendan Jones Attempts an Irish Exit
By Katie McFadden
Did Brendan Jones, the best bartender in Rockaway, try to pull an Irish exit? Well, almost. Rogers Pub’s beloved bartender for 35 years said his farewell to some on Saturday, December 28, as rumors swirled that he may be hanging it up. He’s just going in for hernia surgery soon, but it could be the beginning of retirement for Jones, if he finds that he enjoys it too much. After all, he’s been behind the stick for more than 50 years in Rockaway, without drinking a drop of alcohol, no less.
But he did say on Saturday, “I’ll probably come back.” And even that comeback was shorter than expected, as he’s been convinced to work another few days after some were upset to hear the late news of his serving his possible last pour on Saturday.
So those wanting to wish Brendan well and have a potential parting glass will have an opportunity this Thursday, January 2, Friday, January 3 and Saturday, January 4 at Rogers on Beach 116th Street. And when Brendan Jones is ready to officially retire, Rogers will likely let everyone know!
