The Ocean Bay Houses Resident Council organized a special post-Christmas event for tenants in the Ocean Bay development on Monday, December 30.
Roughly 110 attendees lined up to receive toys, hot chocolate and donuts. A unique aspect was that the kids were allowed to shop for their own presents without the parents over their shoulders. They were able to pick from a multiple range of toys including cars, slime, footballs, dolls, and so much more. Once the children had selected their gifts, a raffle ensued, featuring laptops, gift cards, scooters and blenders as prizes.
The Ocean Bay Houses Resident Council made a deliberate decision to retain some gifts, with the intention of motivating tenants to attend their meetings, which are essential for addressing various concerns, including heating issues, broken appliances, and other matters that impact their quality of life and well-being. Jeanine Lattimere, who is the vice president, said, “After each meeting during the year there will be a raffle to give out some of the bigger prizes. But tenants must be present and active.”
