Four-Peat Undefeated SFDS Girls Champs
The SFDS 8th Grade Girls did it again! They won their fourth consecutive CYO championship, going undefeated all four seasons. It was their fifth title in six years. Beating Blessed Trinity under the lights in Breezy Point, their goal horn went off through the night as Lily Warnock, McKenzie Doyle, Sadie Corvi and Annie O’Sullivan tallied goals. It was another quiet game for the opposing team as SFDS defense put up their fifth consecutive shutout led on “D” by Jane Bender, Reese Dennis, Maeve Murphy and Hannah LaPrice in front of stellar goal keeper Teagan O’Rourke. In a total team effort, play was dominated by midfield and offensive players: Taryn Martin, Niamh Mullen, Molly Gallagher, Brianne Layden, Annie McCormick, Amelia O’Sullivan, Angelina Rasmussen and Kayla Dewitt.
These girls stuck it out after a wasted COVID season, totally committed to being the best soccer players and teammates they could be, and it showed. Coaches John Martin and Ed Dennis offered non-stop support as well as some comic relief for the four seasons and created lasting memories for the girls. We are so proud of this team and wish them the best of luck in high school.
