Frozens, Fins and Fun at Poseidon’s Prom

It was chilly outside but warm inside Connolly’s on Saturday, February 1, as visions of summer’s Poseidon’s Parade danced in partygoers’ heads. Poseidon’s Prom gave folks a little mid-winter taste of what’s to come.

On Friday, Connolly’s was open for a rare winter appearance to serve up frozens for the parade’s annual fundraiser, hosted by the Rockaway Mermaid Brigade. People showed up in their prom best while some opted for more aquatic looks with crabs, sharks, octopuses, jellyfish and mermaids taking over the dance floor. DJ Katelyn Ryan Henningsen provided the tunes while disco queen Bettina Hornung emceed the festivities.

As the parade’s fundraiser, Queen mermaid Casey Brouder cheered folks on as they showed support by buying raffle tickets for some great prizes donated by local businesses, including a big prize of a poolside cabana stay at The Rockaway Hotel. New cat rescue group PURR RBNY also held a 50/50 raffle to support their efforts.

Speaking of prizes, some special honors were also awarded to a select few. The ultimate honor of being crowned prom king and queen went to Liall Clarke and Jackie Kenel. They’ll be leading the 11th annual parade in September. And the special phallic shaped trophy went to Stephanie Hahn of ste.FUN.ie., a local party expert, fun maker and face painter who helped the Mermaid Brigade tie-dye their parade t-shirts last summer.

We look forward to more ocean-inspired fun this summer! For more info and updates, follow Poseidon’s Parade on Facebook and @poseidonsparade on Instagram.
