The Second Annual Timmy Klein Beach Volleyball Tournament, held this past Saturday, was, for the second straight year, an unbelievable day. The tournament, held in honor of fallen firefighter and friend of many across the peninsula, Timmy Klein, who gave his life at a fire just over one year ago, featured some truly incredible volleyball. All proceeds raised on Saturday went to the Timothy P Klein Foundation. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make the day possible, especially the tireless work of Timmy’s family and friends. Also, congratulations to the champions, Bungalow Bar!

This Saturday, July 15, is the 16th annual City Day of Water. There will be events and activities throughout the peninsula including the Jamaica Bay Festival. For more information about the festival and all the goings on, check out page 14. We are blessed to live nestled between two amazing bodies of water and this Saturday is a great chance to appreciate that.

Looks like Action Bronson was all talk and no action. Fans thought they were getting a performance from the rapper and chef at The Rockaway Hotel on July 2 but were met with a very late Bronson, who arrived for a DJ set, which amounted to playing a few ‘90s songs on a laptop, taking photos in the crowd and leaving after 45 minutes. The Rockaway Hotel has issued refunds to the disappointed fans.

West African food stand, The Cradle NYC, is closing up shop in Rockaway Beach. After three years at their 194 Beach 96th location, owners Babajide Alao and Pesy Sikyala are moving on. The last chance to grab their delicious appetizers, smoothies and jollof rice bowls will be Sunday, July 16, from 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This comes just after the restaurant was awarded a $10,000 grant from DoorDash. The owners say they’ll be using the grant to move to a larger location, potentially in Brooklyn.
