Loud East 2 Back By The Beach Wrestling Comes To St. Camillus

By Kami-Leigh Agard

Let’s goooo! Loud East 2 Back By The Beach Wrestling is happening on Saturday, May 2 at St. Camillus gymnasium. And with last year’s tag-team defending champions—Da Prospectz—Collin Parker and Jay Alfredo, facing off debuting team, Red Rum, in the ring, and even more smack down one-on-one matches with wrestlers full of swagger and ready to rumble—this is one event, Loud East is commanding wrestling lovers to—“Let’s goooo!”

There are many elements to wrestling—athleticism, storylines, characters, catchphrases—that lure someone to becoming not just a fan of wrestling, but to actually  take the acrobatic leap into the ring. Such as for example, The Rock’s (Dwayne Johnson): “If you smell what The Rock is cooking!” or Hulk Hogan’s (Terry Gene Bollea): “Whatcha gonna do, when Hulkamania runs wild on you?” However, for Ozone Park resident, 20-year-old Parker a.k.a “The Sensation,” though not as burly like The Rock and Hulk Hogan, pro-wrestling was always a dream, and with his tag-team wrestling partner, Brooklyn resident, 21-year-old Alfredo a.k.a. “Young Gordy,” their catchphrase—“It’s tea time!”—and the duo is not just primed to spill the tea, but burn their opponents.

Parker said, “My nickname, is ‘The Sensation,’ because when I step into a ring, my goal is to outshine and just be sensational. It’s to entertain the most that I can, the best that I can. It’s to inspire. I want to be inspiring people like when I was younger. I want a kid to look up to me and say, ‘I want to be like him because this is what I want to do with my life, and this guy embodies it fully and wholeheartedly.’

“Growing up, wrestling has always been a big part of my life. For example, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has always been a dream of mine. Then with channel surfing, you find other wrestling companies like Total Nonstop Action and Ring of Honor. You see these larger-than-life characters that just draw you in, that, that make you want not just to believe in something but be something.”

Parker kept that dream alive and enrolled in Loud East Wrestling training program led by Loud East Wrestling’s founder, Kevin Corcoran, known as “Grim Reefer.”

Parker shared, “I’ve actually only ever trained with Loud East Wrestling with the head trainer, Kevin. He’s been wrestling since the ’90s and has been part of some of the most infamous wrestling storylines, factions, and he came up in an era when wrestling was truly sacred to him and the people he trained and grew up with in wrestling.

“So, learning wrestling from him, it became a different mentality from just being a fan that I was for so long. Growing up in the early 2010s, I had been lucky enough to see people like WWE Hall of Famer, Shawn Michaels a.k.a. “The Heartbreak Kid” wrestle on television. Then AJ Styles, who like me, wasn’t the biggest guy. But when he walked into the room, he had the presence to convince everyone that he belonged in the ring. And something about that and the way he presented himself as a wrestler and as a person, it drew me towards him. Another person would be like Jeff Hardy, known for his daredevil style.”

As for how he and Alfredo began the road to becoming Loud East tag team champions, Parker said it all began with a chance encounter in Loud East’s gym.

“On my first day of training, I walked in, and the trainer said he was a little busy with the more advanced class. Then he turned to Jay, and said, ‘Hey, can you go help him learn the basics?’ And Jay, being the outgoing person, he is, said, ‘Yes.’ So, we connected and things kind of spiraled upwards from there.”

Parker may look small in stature compared to Alfredo, however, as a duo they have the special sauce that makes them champions in the ring.

“We have a move called the ‘wheelbarrow senton.’ Jay will slam the opponent on the floor, then I’ll wrap my legs around Jay, then he’ll fling and drop me, and I’ll land on the opponent’s chest,” Parker said.

As young newbie wrestlers, between Parker and Alfredo, they have more than 7K followers on Instagram.

Parker said, “Jay loves networking on social media, so he does a really good job of promoting us as a tag team.”

The wrestling enthusiast shared that regardless of what the future holds, wrestling will always be his life.

“I am a full-time college student studying film and television at La Guardia Community College. God forbid, knock on wood, something happens in wrestling, I’m still able to contribute in producing wrestling shows,” he said.

This past Sunday, April 19, the tag team, Parker and Alfredo, were sporting their championship belts at 7th Inning Stretch Queens Culture Clash collectibles event at Knights of Columbus, where they raffled a ticket to the May 2 Loud East event for Rockaway Beach Autism Families. And significantly, a fellow wrestling aficionado on the autism spectrum won.

Parker said, “Being here and promoting our love for wrestling and Loud East’s event was amazing, and to see James, a fellow wrestling lover, win the raffle made it even more special. Wrestling is for everyone. We just want people to come to the event May 2, and have fun.
