Meeks Meets with Constituents

On Friday, May 23, Congressman Gregory Meeks met with The Heart of Rockaway Civic and the Deerfield Association for a roundtable meeting with residents to discuss potential federal budget cuts and the effects it could have on the area.

Edwin Williams, president of  THOR said, “So far the cuts to our bayside protection have not been touched by the Trump administration. We are also told that all owners on the bayside who have old worn-down bulk heads will be rebuilt at no cost to the owners and maintained by the state. The construction on pump stations, bulkheads and berms will begin in 2026. Also, the PA system that THOR has been fighting for our beaches is picking up steam as our Congressman wants more information to help bring this life saving equipment to Rockaway. Our Queens Borough President, and Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers, Assemblyman Khaleel Anderson and CB 14 are also fighting to make this PA system a reality.”
