A bouncy Pikachu, a giant red balloon animal, superheroes, mermaids, skeletons and other fun and spooky characters paraded down the boardwalk on Sunday, October 27, right towards the NYPD 100th Precinct’s parking lot for an afternoon of trunk-or-treat.
More than 100 kids and their parents came out for the 100th Precinct’s festivities. It began with the Halloween parade on the boardwalk, led by some of the precinct’s officers, including Officer Farrell, who got into the spirit with a skeleton donning an NYPD polo, riding on the back of his patrol motorcycle. With about 40 costumed kids, the parade kicked off at Beach 102nd Street and marched down toward the precinct’s lot on Beach 94th Street, with others joining along the way.
The paradegoers met up with a line of eager costumed kiddos waiting to get into the lot to start trunk-or-treating. When they entered, they were handed pumpkin bags to collect their goodies from those stationed at each festive trunk. The kids were also able to enjoy bouncy houses, giveaways and a costume contest.
The event was made possible by donors including Casino Auto, Bryan’s Auto, Deirdre Maeves, Ridgewood Savings Bank, the 100th Precinct Community Council, Kiwanis Club, Stop and Shop Arverne, Pickles & Pies, Key Food, Millennium Development, Rockaway Recycle Program, Madeleine Chocolate and more.
