Rockaway Republican Club Readies for the Battle for New York at February Meeting

The presidential election is behind us and now the Rockaway Republican Club is focused on the battle for New York. The Rockaway Republican Club (RRC) will have its first meeting of 2025 at the Rockaway Point Breezy Point Catholic Club (204-10 Rock Point Blvd.) on Wednesday, February 5. With critical elections across NYC this year, the meeting’s theme is “The Battle For New York Is ON!”

According to a press release from the RRC, Mayoral hopeful Curtis Sliwa will headline the event. Several candidates for local positions will also speak, including Queens Borough President candidate Henry Ikezi. Since Councilwoman Joann Ariola will not face a primary, the RRC has invited new Republican City Council candidates from across Queens to participate. Queens currently only has two Republican City Council members, Ms. Ariola and Vickie Paladino from Whitestone (CCD 19). The RRC intends to flip a few seats so that Queens’ representation in the City Council is more representative of the borough’s citizenry.

Sliwa, who makes daily appearances on the Sid and Friends radio show hosted by Belle Harbor’s Sid Rosenberg, remains very popular in the “Irish Riviera.” He won several election districts in Rockaway during his run for mayor against Eric Adams in 2021. Although he has not filed paperwork with the Campaign Finance Board, Sliwa is the presumptive Republican candidate in 2025.

First-time City Council Candidates Giovanni Franco (Corona), John Patrick Healy (Sunnyside), Supreet McGrath (Forest Hills) and Alan Wang (Flushing) have been invited. Years ago, a Democratic City Council candidate vowed to wipe the “tiny red Republican spot” in Rockaway off the map. Today, with the RRC’s help, that red spot is growing from Rockaway to Whitestone to Jackson Heights.

Republicans and Republican supporters from across the peninsula and Broad Channel are welcome to attend the meeting on February 5 at 7 p.m. Limited edition RRC Curtis Sliwa t-shirts will be on sale. For more information and to RSVP, go to https://is.gd/ZxastM.
