Summer Classic Concludes This Week

The 40th St. Francis Summer Classic concludes tonight, August 22, beginning with the Girls High School championship between Callie’s and NF Beauty at 6:30 p.m. at St. Camillus Springman Hall followed by the Clare Droesch Womens Open championship at 8 p.m. as Crush Studio and Graf-X square off.
The action then moves to Fr. Grogan Memorial Schoolyard at St. Francis de Sales for the Tim Klein Mens Open Division 1 championship. Callie’s will go for a second championship on Thursday, August 22 at 8 p.m., as they take on Kennedy’s.
Friday, August 16, was a rousing championship night for the Grammar School and Boys High School divisions. Shane Tubridy scored 25 to lead Bungalow Bar to the Boys Grammar Middle championship 45-36 over Simply Strong Construction. Bungalow Bar was coached by JoJo O’Grady and the champions also include Ryan Tubridy, Finn Keane, Justin Murphy, Joseph Hanning, Thomas Gampero, Brandon Cevallos, and Aiden Buonnano.
Bryan McKinnon-Doyle scored 18 as Pro1Tire.com defeated Kill, Wood, Ace, Mann and Delaney 51-43 for the Boys Grammar Senior title. Ty Duffy added 14 after scoring 37 in Wednesday’s semifinal game. For Kill, Wood, Hugh Courtney followed his record setting 55-point outburst on Wednesday with 33 on Friday but it was not enough. Pro1tire.com is coached by Charlie Marquardt and Shane Gauvard and the rest of the championship team members are Justin Shapiro, Tommy O’Neill, Dylan Mulvanerty, Jack Green, Lucas Allen, Ciaran McBride, and Rafael Campos.
The Boys High School championship was the closest of the night. Pete Franchock of Bedford Funding scored 30 but R Tyne Painting prevailed 52-50 as Colin Courtney scored 17 and Brayden Ronayne scored 15. The Dynamic Duo of Joe Courtney and John Ronayne coached the team to victory and also wearing the long sleeve tees are Joe Chelales, Timmy Hayes, John Courtney, Matt Reilly, Kevin Gallagher, and James McMahon.
Ronin Consulting completed an amazing playoff run, after winning one regular season game, by beating McManus-Leahy Basketball Camp 56-51 for the Girls Grammar Senior championship despite 28 points by Maggie Palisi of McManus-Leahy. Ciara McGinley led Ronin with 23 and her teammates are Reese Dennis, Sadie Corvi, Anna Corvi, Lila Costin, Grace Leary, Juliana Olszewski, and Savannah Last and the coaches are Ed Dennis and Kristina Triglia.
