Summer Internships for High School Students!
By S. C. Samoy,
RISE Director of Operations & Communications
Rockaway’s most popular internship programs for high schoolers are accepting applications for participants until May 1, 2023. Shore Corps and Environmentor, sponsored by RISE (Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity), provides collaboration with artists, scientists, and local partner organizations for ninth through twelfth graders who live or attend school on the peninsula. Not only will they develop their team-building skills, but they also will get a stipend of up to $1,000!
Shore Corps and Environmentor take place from July 10 to August 17, 2023, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the century-old firehouse at 58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
Environmental science, civic engagement, food systems, and community planning are the areas in which students will work with professionals in those fields and will gain a better appreciation of the natural resources of the Rockaway peninsula. Plus, they will bike, kayak, surf, and get CPR training and water safety.
