Spring Migration Walk

On Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join Jamaica Bay Guardian Don Riepe for a digital slide program followed by a walk around the ponds and gardens to look for migrating warblers, tanagers, grosbeaks, terns, herons, egrets and osprey. Learn about the mysteries of migration and how to identify birds in the field.  Kids welcome. Free. For more information contact don@littoralsociety.org

 

Fort and Dunes Hike at Fort Tilden

On Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m., head to the chapel at Fort Tilden to join a park ranger on a guided nature walk on trails nestled between the sea and maritime forest to learn about how this site has defended us in the past and how it continues to do so today. Two mile walk on uneven terrain. Free parking with a permit.

 

4th Annual Walk for Autism

On Sunday, April 26 at 11 a.m., head to the Beach 95th boardwalk for the 4th Annual Walk for Autism. Registration at 10 a.m. Walk on the boardwalk at 11 a.m. Enjoy a vendor fair, buy Rockaway Beach Autism Families t-shirts and more. After party at Rockaway Beach Pickleball & Golf. Music by RockaWades, food, cash bar.

 

City Nature Challenge BioBlitz

On Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join JBRPC for the City Nature Challenge! During this hands-on community science event, participants will work together to document as many plant and animal species as possible throughout the refuge. Using the iNaturalist app, you’ll help photograph and record wildlife. Bring a smartphone or tablet with the iNaturalist app downloaded. All experience levels are welcome.

 

A Taste of Natural Healing

On Monday, April 27 at 10 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Alexandra G. Taggart, certified instructor of Dragon’s Way Qigong, leads a FREE thirty-minute class. The Four Energy Gates is a practice to awaken the body’s energy. Think almost like an acupuncture treatment, but you are the practitioner!

On Monday, April 27 at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Ann Fosteris teaches a FREE exercise class. For all ages and fitness levels.

 

Core on the Floor

On Monday, April 27 at 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a FREE thirty-minute class, led by Ann Fosteris, that focuses on core and lower body. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels!

 

100th Precinct Community Council

On Wednesday, April 29 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly 100th Precinct Community Council meeting. Hear updates and address concerns.

 

Body Weight Circuit Training

On Tuesdays at 7 p.m., head to the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Ave.) for a free body weight circuit training class with Edith. Membership not required. Ongoing through May.

 

Rockaway Game Club

On Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., head to Bungalow Bar (377 Beach 92nd Street) to join Rockaway Game Club for a night of games! $10 for first-timers, $5 for return adventurers. All ages. Stop by anytime. Follow @rockawaygameclub for more!

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to the Beach 60th boardwalk to join Gloria for Cardio Punch, a total body workout for all levels. Punch to the rhythms of motivating music. Through September.
