Self-Defense Training

On Thursday, October 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to the Rockaway YMCA (207 Beach 73rd St.) for Take Back your Power: Domestic Violence Self-Defense Training Class. All genders welcome. Sponsored by Councilwoman Brooks-Powers.

 

Day of Prayer for Peace

On Friday, October 27, head to St. Francis de Sales Church on Beach 129th Street for a Mass at 9 a.m. and a Benediction at 3 p.m.  to pray for peace  across the world.

 

Cristin Mullen Run

On Saturday, October 28 at 10 a.m., head to Beach 94th for the start of the Cristin Mullen 5K along the boardwalk. Register in advance at RockawayTC.org or day of starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Amphitheater on Beach 94th Street.

 

Pumpkin Harvest Festival

On Saturday, October 28 from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., head to Arverne Playground (55-0 Arverne Blvd.) to enjoy pumpkin picking and painting, refreshments and candy.

 

Rockaway Makers Market

On Saturday, October 28, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Rockaway Beach Surf Club (302 Beach 87th St.) for a market featuring goods and goodies from local vendors and enjoy a bbq brunch.

 

Dawn McIntyre Children’s Halloween Parade

On Saturday, October 28, costumed kids and families are welcome to line up at 17th Road Park in Broad Channel at 12:30 p.m. for a parade down Cross Bay Blvd. at 1 p.m. Cupcakes and juice provide after the parade.

 

Trunk-or-Treat

On Saturday, October 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to 49-01 Beach Channel Dr. to enjoy Trunk-or-Treat. Come dressed up in costumes. Treats, food, music, family fun, resources and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop.

 

BC Fall Festival

On Saturday, October 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to Church Rd. between 7th and Noel in Broad Channel to enjoy refreshments, activities, local vendors and more.

 

The Flower in Mexican

Culture

On Sunday, October 29 at 1 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and join Ranger Flor to learn about the origins of Day of the Dead and the meaning of flowers in Mexican culture.

 

JASA Weekly Arts

On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Beach 60th and Rockaway Freeway to listen to live music by Mariachi Real de Mexico, and buy from local farmers and vendors.

 

Master Fitness™

On Mondays, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Ann Fosteris leads this free fitness class. All ages and fitness levels welcome.

 

Core on the Floor

On Mondays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body and led by Ann Fosteris of Fitness to You. Participants should bring their own mats. All levels welcome!

 

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Ruth Graves, certified yoga instructor, teaches a FREE chair yoga class. All levels welcome.
