Little North Pole Hallmark Filming

On Friday, December 15 at 4:30 p.m., head to the Little North Pole (144-03 Neponsit Ave.) to be part of a filming for the Hallmark Channel. Festive clothing encouraged. No brand logos. Kids encouraged as Santa will visit with toys in hand.

 

Winter Bird Walk

On Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to find winter bird species including Atlantic brants, ruddy ducks and other waterfowl. Binoculars are provided, meet inside the Visitor Center.

 

Winter Solstice Lanterns

On Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17 at 3:30 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to make a lantern from things found in nature to bring light to the year’s shortest day (Winter Solstice happening on Thursday 12/21), all while learning about how the longest night is celebrated around the world. While you wait for your creations to dry, you will step outside and enjoy one of the last sunsets of Autumn. This is a family friendly event. Registration is required. Santa Suit/Grinch 5K Run/Walk

On Saturday, December 16 at 9 a.m., Rockaway Track Club is hosting the annual Santa Suit/ Grinch 5K Run/ Walk. Check-in or register at Healy’s (108-07 Rockaway Beach Dr.) at 9 a.m. for suit pickup. The 5K run or one mile walk begins at 10 a.m. on the Beach 108th boardwalk. $40 pre-registration or $45 day of. Santa Suit provided or Grinch mask and gloves for $20 more. Movie With Santa

On Sunday, December 17 at 3 p.m., head to St. Camillus (180 Beach 100th Street) for the 100th Precinct Community Council’s Movie with Santa. Enjoy a holiday movie, photo opportunities with Santa, pizza and drinks for kids. Best for kids under 12 but must be accompanied by an adult. If possible, bring an unwrapped toy to be donated to charity.

 

School Board Meeting

Challenge Preparatory Charter School Monthly Board Meeting is December 20 at 6:30 p.m. Location and/or Zoom details can be found at www.challengecharterschools.org

 

Kids Holiday Craft Club

On Thursdays through December 28 at 4 p.m., head to Peninsula Library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for kids to make a free holiday craft.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.)  to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

BC Breakfast With Santa

On Saturday, December 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., enjoy a festive Breakfast with Santa at Broad Channel’s Christ Presbyterian Church by the Sea (102 Noel Road). Omelets, beverages, eggs, pancakes and pictures and memories with the Man in Red. $15 for adults, $8 for children. Pay at the door. 50/50 raffles available. All proceeds go to support the church.

 

Master Fitness™

On Mondays, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) as Ann Fosteris leads this free fitness class. All ages and fitness levels welcome.

 

Core on the Floor

On Mondays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body and led by Ann Fosteris of Fitness to You. Participants should bring their own mats.

 

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ruth Graves, certified yoga instructor, teaches a free 45-minute chair yoga class.
