Native Plant Nursery Planting

On Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., join RISE at their Native Plant Nursery adjacent to Arverne East Welcome Center at 190 Beach 44th Street to help them plant and get this nursery started. Rain or shine. Students can obtain community service hours.

 

Rockaway Stop & Swap

On Saturday, May 11 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to Beach 60th and Rockaway Freeway with items in hand to swap with others. Clean, reusable, portable items such as clothing, housewares, electronics, books and toys welcome. Please no furniture, large items, open food, etc.

 

Spring Warblers and Waders

On Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a hike around the refuge to look for spring birds and other wildlife. Learn about bird migration and signs of spring. Day

On Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day! Stop by to learn about migrating birds with arts and crafts!

 

Foraging Tour with Steve Brill

On Sunday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to the Arverne East Welcome Center, 190 Beach 44th Street to join “Wildman” Steve Brill for a Mother’s Day foraging adventure around the Arverne East Nature Preserve. Register at www.riserockaway.org/events

 

Mother’s Day Planting

On Sunday, May 12 from 1 p.m.to 3 p.m., head to Shore Front Parkway and Beach 94th Street to join JBRPC and NYC Parks in planting spring annuals along Shore Front Parkway in the Beach 90s. All ages welcome.

On Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus for the monthly Community Board 14 meeting. Hear from St. John’s CEO Dr. Morrish, learn about the City of Yes Housing Opportunity plan, the Queens Bus Network Redesign, a NYC Parks update and more.

 

Challenge Prep Board Meeting

On Thursdays at 5 p.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a seasonal selection of movies our adults and older adult movie fans will enjoy!

 

Crochet Club

for Kids

On Fridays at 4 p.m., kids ages 6-11 are welcome to Peninsula Library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to learn the basics of crocheting and how to make a scarf or handbag. Must call 718-634-1110 to reserve a space.
