RISE Fundraiser

On Friday, May 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to Connolly’s (155 Beach 95th Street) for “Coladas for a Cause,” a fundraiser for RISE’s youth educational programs. $20 entry includes one FREE drink. There will be a 50/50, a raffle with Patagonia swag, and other great prizes.

 

Story Time with Ranger Flor

On Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join Ranger Flor and Joe the Pigeon for story time in the pollinator garden. We will read Mo Willem’s books on the Pigeon followed by a discussion on how this often-misunderstood bird is an important part of NYC and Gateway!

 

Rockaway Community Park Cleanup

On Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to Rockaway Community Park at Beach 58th Street and Almeda Ave. to join JBRPC for a shoreline cleanup event. Remove harmful debris and trash from the shoreline and surrounding park. Gloves, bags, and tools will be provided. Rain or shine.

Birding: Shorebirds

On Sunday, May 19 at 9 a.m., head to Beach 44th and the boardwalk where Urban Park Rangers will guide you to the best viewing spots to see migratory birds. All skill levels welcome. Learn more about plovers, terns, oystercatchers and other shorebirds that migrate to Rockaway Beach every year.

 

Plant Sale Fundraiser

On Sunday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to the Beach 91 Garden (136 Beach 91st Street) to help out the garden by purchasing vegetable starters, herbs, perennials and houseplants. Tote bags and garden accessories also for purchase! For info, follow @beach91communitygarden on Instagram.

 

Beach 116th Summer Kickoff

On Sunday, May 19 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., head to Beach 116th Street for a festival featuring music, vendors and fun!

 

NYPD Baby Shower

On Sunday, May 19, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to the Rockaway YMCA (207 Beach 73rd Street) for the community baby shower. Giveaways and resources for pregnant women and moms with kids under 3. Call 929-287-9249 for tickets and info.

 

Day at the Races

On Sunday, May 19 at 1:30 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the KofC’s fundraiser. $10 entrance fee. Light fare, cash bar, raffles. Come root for your horse!

 

BHPOA Meeting

On Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m., head to P.S. 114 (400 Beach 135th St) for the monthly Belle Harbor Property Owners Association meeting. Discuss City of Yes, the beach season, neighborhood watch and more.

 

Housing & Land Use Committee

On Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m., head to the St. John’s Critical Learning Center (19-09 Plainview Ave.) for Community Board 14’s Housing and Land Use committee meeting on City of Yes with urban planning expert Paul Graziano.

 

Master Fitness™

On Tuesday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ann Fosteris teaches a free 45-minute exercise class. All levels welcome!

Core on the Floor

On Tuesday, May 21 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ann Fosteris leads a free 30-minute class focusing on core and lower body. Bring a mat.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Beach 60th and the boardwalk to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Ice Cream & Art

On Mondays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to Lighthouse at Coastal (108-19 Rockaway Beach Dr.) for an ice cream social and art making!  Donations for the arts are welcome, abundant supplies offered.

 

Senior Exercise Classes

Head to Seaside Older Adult Center (320 Beach 94th Street) for exercise classes for those 60+. New members welcome. Bring ID. Aerobics on Mondays with Anna at 11 a.m. Walking with Ease with Gerard on Tuesdays at 12:45 p.m. Strength Exercise with Tommy on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Thai Chi for Arthritis with Joe on Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m.
