Queens Carnival

On Saturday, August 24 at 8 a.m., head to Bayswater Park at 701 Bay Street for a paint and powder jump to kick off the Carnival festivities, with a parade heading to DredSurfer Grill on Beach 17th Street and the boardwalk. Festivities with live music continue until sunset, followed by fireworks.

 

Run Rockaway Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

On Saturday, August 24, Rockaway Track Club is hosting a marathon, half marathon and 5K on the boardwalk. Starting at 6 a.m., head to the Beach 94th amphitheater for day of registration, bib and t-shirt pickup. Half marathon and marathon begin at 8 a.m. To pre-register, head to: www.rockawaytc.org

 

Jamaica Bay Shorebird Festival

On Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a series of activities like a hike around the refuge to explore the diversity of New York City’s shorebirds. For all ages. Call 718-318-4340 for more information.

 

Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th

On Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th and the Rockaway Freeway to shop from local vendors. Dark Tide Brass will be the musical performer. Edgemere Farm, Rockaway Soda, Rockaway Honeyworks, Mushroom Queens, Blacksmith’s Breads, and other local vendors will be there!

 

RBAF Back to School Carnival

On Sunday, August 25 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to St. Camillus lot at Beach 100th and Shore Front Parkway for a day of games, bouncy rides, carnival games, food, a backpack giveaway, dunk tank, vendors and more. $15 for adults, $10 for kids 12 and under. Proceeds benefit Rockaway Beach Autism Families.

 

Rockaway Beach Film Festival

Finger Painting

On Tuesday, August 27 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., head to Hammels Playground on Beach 84th and RBB, for a free finger painting session for all ages. Bring an oversized t-shirt. Call Theresa for more info at 646-408-1200

 

Free Energetics Lecture

On Wednesday, August 28 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to Lighthouse at Coastal (108-19 Beach Channel Drive) for a free lecture for seekers and those curious about  Marconics energy. All are welcome!

 

Zumba Under the Stars

On Thursdays through August 29, at 7 p.m., head to the Beach 108th Hockey Rink for a free Zumba workout class led by Lisa G.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Beach 60th and the boardwalk to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Outdoor Chair Yoga

On Monday, August 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 11a.m., at RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), join Cynthia Carrion, certified yoga instructor, in a gentle form of yoga that is done while seated or using a chair for balance.

 

Stretch & Meditation

On Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m., head to Beach 131st Street to join Jodi Heywood for a total body gentle stretch followed by a guided meditation. All levels welcome. Bring your towel and water. No class if inclement weather.

 

Yoga at Riis

Yoga with Soupy

On Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 a.m., head to Beach 102nd Street for a yoga class led by Soup Campbell.

 

Floyd Bennett Field Kayaking

On Saturdays and Sunday at 9:30 a.m., head to the Floyd Bennett Field Seaplane Ramp in Brooklyn for kayaking for beginners. Open to ages 6 and up with an adult. No reservation required. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles and instruction will be provided.
