 A 1,000 Point Shooter

Local resident Noelle Polanco ended 2023 as a 1,000-point basketball player, becoming the youngest player at Fontbonne Hall Academy to do so.

On Saturday afternoon, December 30, Fontbonne took on Maria Regina Westchester at Fontbonne in Brooklyn and the stands were full of Polanco’s friends and family, ready to cheer her on for the achievement that they knew she would knock out on Saturday, going into the game just four points away from reaching 1,000.

With a 3-pointer, Polanco reached the incredible milestone in her high school basketball career. She had scored 305 points in 9th grade and 539 in 10th, leaving her needing to score just 156 points in her junior year to hit 1,000, which she accomplished on Saturday. Having just turned 16 a few days before and as a junior, Polanco earned the title of the youngest Fontbonne player to score 1,000, just about a month into the season. Katie Marquardt, also of Rockaway, became the first in January 2018, scoring 1,000 points in her senior year.

Polanco is an alum of St. Francis de Sales (Class of 2021). On Saturday, members of the SFDS basketball team showed up to show support and cheer on Noelle as she reached 1,000, serving as inspiration to them all.

Congratulations, Noelle Polanco!
