A Special Visit to the Little North Pole
Story and Photos

The magic never ends at The Little North Pole. After the big show on Saturday, Joe Mure and Jodi Tucci did it all again and again for some very special guests.
On the morning of Monday, November 27, 28 busloads of special needs children from District 75 schools came for their own lighting celebration at The Little North Pole, complete with food, music, and of course a visit from Santa Claus, who had toys for every child. New this year was another lighting ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, November 29 for children in the NYC foster system.
But a longtime tradition is a visit from the St. Camillus Special Olympics group. Led by Joe Featherston and many volunteers, these special athletes came out on Monday evening, and they too were treated to food, music by DJ Mugsy, who had everyone on their feet dancing on the chilly evening, and their very own lighting. Radio Station AM970 was on hand to broadcast the event live. This year, Paul Fitzpatrick, Patricia Flaherty and John Welsh had the very important job of pushing the magic button to light up the home at 144-03 Neponsit Ave.
Shortly after, Santa Claus arrived in style, on the back of a firetruck, with the help of the FDNY’s Engine 329. All of the special guests in attendance were then given the chance meet with Santa and receive a present. In exchange, many gave hugs, smiles and gratitude, setting Neponsit Avenue aglow with love and light.
