 High Tide

Once again, getting this year’s Rockaway Times Photo contest down to a top 30 was quite the task. We had over a thousand to choose from! Our selections are on pages 14 to 16. Congratulations to the Top 30! Our judges had a difficult task, but in the end, we think everyone will agree they did a great job. The Top 30 are in the process of being enlarged to poster-size and will be put up on display on the boardwalk. Five Honorable Mention photos were also selected and will be on display at the ferry dock. We will print those in one of our upcoming papers. Look for all the photos to be on display just before Memorial Day. Thank you to everyone who participated! After the Top 30 have some time basking in their glory on the boardwalk, we will continue to narrow down the field until we have our winner, which will be announced in late August.

Richard Diffendale, a 7th and 8th grade teacher at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy, received a call from 106.7 LITE FM this week to tell him he won a three-night vacation in Orlando, Fl., with accommodations at Hilton Orlando and a day at Discovery Cove. Mr. Diffendale was nominated by four 7th grade students earlier this year for 106.7’s Trip for Teachers contest, which honors and thanks the tri-state area’s best teachers. Congratulations on a well-deserved honor!

Seems that the rest of the world is figuring out what we locals already know — our beach is spectacular. Travel + Leisure magazine recently published its list of the 25 best beaches in the country and two NYC beaches made the magazine’s list: our very own Rockaway Beach, along with Coney Island Beach. We really wish folks like Travel + Leisure kept our little secret to themselves!
