Beach 119 Takes the Plunge
The New Year’s Day Polar Plunge has become almost a rite of passage on Beach 119th. With such a large turnout, led in by a parade down the block to the beach, the Beach 119th plunge is one of the biggest yet. Just ahead of noon, one neighbor led the procession by drum as another proudly held an American flag. As the clock struck 12 p.m., the Beach 119th plungers ran into the chilly Atlantic on the 50-degree day. Photos by Karen Baran and Kay Sullivan.
