Diana Butler Bass, author, historian and public theologian, recently wrote “What Are We Going to Do? Preparing my house to withstand the wildfire of the next four years.” In it, she offers, “Here are my ten Ws.” Wake up, Welcome the day, Walk, (Be) With others, Work, Write, Watch the news, practice Wide-sight, Weep, and Wonder.

What if you could take care of four of the ten Ws in one fell swoop?

Well, you can! Ann Fosteris, certified personal trainer, gives her time and knowledge and skills to anyone who has the motivation to . . .

Wake up. MasterFitness and Core on the Floor, Fosteris’ free classes, with support provided by FRANC and Fund for the City of New York, are at 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.

Welcome the day. The sessions occur every Monday.

Walk. Go to RISE (Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity) on 58- 03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

(Be) With others. People from all walks of life attend.

“I started attending the class in the summer of 2024,” notes Icilma Southwell. “The instructor is friendly and encourages you to go at your own pace. It’s also nice to exercise with people in your age group, and it helps to know the correct way to exercise and not hurt yourself.”

Patricia Jordan says, “It is a great way to start the week. The exercise groups have been a good opportunity to meet new people and interact with members of the Rockaway community. Ann provides excellent energetic leadership that is both challenging and fun!”

“I have some limitations because of health issues,” reports Fran Tuccio, “so Ann has been quick to point out specific movements just for me! There are some of us who find it difficult to get on the floor, so she adjusts us to use the wall with personal instructions. But as Ann says, ‘Keep moving.’”
