Well, we have almost made it. It was not a terrible winter, but we have not had a lot of great spring days, especially on the weekends. We here at The Rockaway Times are very ready for the arrival of summer. Memorial Day weekend starts in a mere 15 days, but who’s counting?

Queens Public Library at Seaside, on the corner of Beach 117th Street and Rockaway Beach Blvd., will be closing for approximately 12 months due to the installation of a new HVAC system. We are certainly no experts on HVAC installation but believe that there is no way that can be an appropriate amount of time necessary to complete the work. They could tear the building down and rebuild it in that amount of time. Whoever is responsible for accepting this proposal should strongly consider taking another look because this is flatly unacceptable. The last day of service for the Seaside Library will be Friday, May 24. While the work is being completed, the three nearest libraries are Peninsula Library, 92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd., Broad Channel Library, 16-26 Cross Bay Blvd. and Arverne Library, 312 Beach 54th Street.

A human skull was found in Jamaica Bay, near the North Channel Bridge on Tuesday. While not confirmed, police believe this could be related to the 46-year-old Ozone Park man who was decapitated while hanging himself on April 12.
