Motorcyclist Falls Off Bridge, Survives
On Wednesday, August 28, just before 7:30 p.m., a 35-year-old driver lost control of his motorcycle, falling off of the Cross Bay Bridge.
The man was traveling northbound on the bridge when he failed to navigate a turn, hit a wall, and went flying off of the bridge, landing in a grassy area between two guardrails on the road below, near the westbound Rockaway entrance to the bridge. Police say the man was not wearing a helmet. He was removed from the scene by EMS as police blocked off the surrounding area to traffic. Miraculously, the next day, despite early reports that the man didn’t make it after arriving at Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, a police source informed The Rockaway Times that the driver survived and was recovering.
