Older Not Wiser

Dear Editor:

The country is getting older, fatter, sicker, and dumber, writes Doc Galvin. Indeed, whatever happened to “older and wiser”? It seems to me that smart, perceptive, intuitive people do improve with age; but for those who possess less of these attributes, wisdom with age is not a given. Who but the elderly are falling for online requests to send gift cards to get a grandchild out of jail or transferring money to overseas accounts to help a “fiancé” out of a financial jam?

The real “digital divide” isn’t just age but the ability to exercise judgment when using the internet. People of every age are at risk of digital dementia!
