Poseidon Promises a Perfect Parade with Prom Kickoff

If Saturday’s Poseidon Prom was any indication, the 10th Annual Poseidon’s Parade this September is sure to be a swimming success!
On February 3, for the first time, Poseidon’s Prom was held at a place that screams summer—Connolly’s. And the only thing cold about this winter shindig were the frozens. The bar was decked out in under the sea décor while Whalemina herself was parked right outside to join in on the occasion.
Inside, DJ Paddy Tubz kept things warm spinning tunes all night long while the bodacious Betting Hornung emceed, and the groovy mermaid queen Casey Brouder excelled at hosting duties. In between dancing, prom guests got to take photos in their best nautical garb at a photo booth and were encouraged to enter a chance at winning a 50/50 and raffles, with prizes to Connolly’s, Pico and Batesy’s up for grabs.
There were also some bigger prizes up for grabs including $2,500 that went to a lucky winner, Mike, from a 50/50 sold prior to the event. DJ Paddy Tubz was awarded a special Poseidon’s honor this year for all of his support for the parade and DJing the prom each year. And of course, it wouldn’t be prom without the crowning of the prom king and queen. Always showing up in their bubbly balloon best, Two Old Punks, Ade and Candy Brigham were crowned prom king and queen this year and will be given the honor of leading Poseidon’s Parade this September.
The Poseidon’s Prom helps the Rockaway Mermaid Brigade fund the annual end of summer splash, Poseidon’s Parade. Money raised goes towards the cost of face painters, mobile Whalemina repairs, generators, permits, promotions, decorations, DJs, musicians, trophy materials and more.
