RAA Opens Summer Exhibit ‘All Who Wander’

The Rockaway Artists Alliance has opened its summer exhibition, “All Who Wander,” at T7 Gallery in Fort Tilden.

“All Who Wander” opened to the public with a reception on Saturday, May 18. This exhibition, which runs through August 17, is juried by Eto Otitigbe, Assistant Professor of Sculpture in the Art Department at Brooklyn College (etootitigbe.com).

The artwork on display in the gallery responds both literally and in the abstract to a comprehensive notion of travel and human movement.  “Not all who wander are lost,” but perhaps some are. So much of one’s life can be defined by how and why we went from Point A to Point B – and everywhere in between. From youthful road trips on shoestring budgets, to stressful business trips that leave us wondering ‘Is this what I worked so hard for?’ Destination weddings, gap years, second honeymoons, hiking the Appalachian trail – documented in social media feeds by the likes of experienced elders and those just starting out. Flights leaving behind cartels and war, migrations, refugees, the search for desperately needed gallons of water stashed in the shade of saguaros. Through widely varied circumstances – survival, exploration, healing a broken heart, starting over, having the privilege of being able to take a break, and more – we relocate ourselves physically and often spin our internal axis permanently.

From watercolor to ink, oil, acrylic, charcoal, collage, screenprint, lithograph, mixed media and more, from artists from all across New York city and state, to all over the country, some from Texas, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Colorado and beyond, there’s a mix of pieces that will have your eyes wandering around the studio. It even features the work of Rockaway photographer Mark Eidinger, depicting travels on the Rockaway ferry and along the beach.

At the end of the exhibit, juror Otitigbe will award one artist “best in show.” The selected artist will receive a solo exhibition in the RAA’s “East Gallery” in 2025.

The RAA gallery is open on weekends. This Saturday and Sunday, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more info and hours throughout the summer, see: https://www.rockawayartistsalliance.org/
