Santa Suit/ Grinch Run Sleighs It Again
Last Saturday morning, December 16, you weren’t imagining the jingle bells you heard down the boardwalk, or the visions of Santas and Grinches in your head. It was the Rockaway Track Club and Healy’s Pub Santa Suit/ Grinch Run!
Plenty of Santas and Grinches signed up to put on the red suit topped off with either a Santa hat or Grinch mask and go for a 5K run or one mile run/walk. They all gathered at Healy’s Pub to pick up their suits before walking to the boardwalk to start the run. In true Rockaway tradition, the Santas and Grinches were led in singing the Star-Spangled Banner before the run. They then ran from Beach 108th to 126th, then down to Beach 98th an back up to the finish line at Beach 108th, where they each received a special Santa medal.
Sarah Siebert was the first Santa to complete the run, followed by Jamie Resurreccion. After the run, all the Santas and Grinches headed back to Healy’s to enjoy a complimentary drink and treats supplied by Jimmy and Charmaine McVeigh of the Rockaway Track Club.
