Jamaica Bay Park Pals

Hawk Watch
On Saturday, October 5 at 10:30 a.m., head to Battery Harris in Fort Tilden to join a park ranger for the chance to see birds of prey like osprey, peregrine falcons, and bald eagles as they fly overhead during the peak fall migration. Learn to ID them by silhouette and at rest. This will take place at the overlook above Battery Harris at Fort Tilden. Cancelled if raining.
Jamaica Bay 101
On Sunday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a Park Ranger to learn about Jamaica Bay’s history and wildlife! Meet in front of the visitor center for a guided walk of the West Pond Trail. Sunscreen and insect repellant encouraged. Binoculars available.
Birding for Beginners
On Sunday, October 6, at 1:30 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to learn about birding. You’ll take a nature walk, talk about what makes Jamaica Bay such a great place for birds, and learn the basics of bird identification and appreciation. Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended, binoculars available.

On Tuesday, October 8 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly CB14 meeting. Presentations from DSNY, DEP, Brisa Builders on 19-19 Cornaga Ave. and more. Those wishing to speak must sign up before the meeting begins.
