Winter Bird Walk

On Sunday, January 21 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a hike to see Atlantic brants, ruddy ducks and other waterfowl. Binoculars are provided, meet inside the Visitor Center.

 

Pawlacio Pets Open House

On Sunday, January 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., stop by Pawlacio Pets (114-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to learn about their doggy daycare and grooming services and enter to win a two-hour playdate or nail trim for your pet.

 

Discover Hike: Marine Mammals

On Sunday, January 21 at 1 p.m., head to Beach 44th and the boardwalk to join NYC Parks staff to learn more about the different types of marine mammals that can be seen off the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. While you are not guaranteed to see any marine mammals, you will learn some of the historical significance of whales and what you can do if you spot one in distress.

 

‘Sound of Freedom’ Screening

On Friday, January 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to The Child Center of NY (57-10 Beach Channel Drive) for a night putting a spotlight on human trafficking, with a self-defense course from 6:15- 6:45 p.m. (email xtrememeasureactivist@gmail.com  to RSVP) and a screening of the PG-13 film “Sound of Freedom” at 7 p.m. Popcorn and drinks. It will be shown again on Saturday, January 20 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima auditorium (154 Beach 84th Street).

 

Land Use Meeting

On Monday, January 22 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for Community Board 14’s Land Use hearing on the Torah Academy for Girls, Congregation YMH and K’Hal Machziker Torah, and the City of Yes Plan.

 

Challenge Prep Charter Board Meeting

Transportation Committee Meeting

On Wednesday, January 24 at 7 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for Community Board 14’s Transportation Committee meeting, discussing the MTA’s new proposed Queens bus service redesign.

 

Cardio Punch

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Seaside Library (116-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.)  to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Master Fitness™

On Mondays at 11 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), for a free 45-minute exercise class led by Ann Fosteris. All ages and fitness levels are welcome!

 

Chair Yoga

On Tuesdays, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., head to RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard), as Ruth Graves, certified yoga instructor, teaches a free 45-minute chair yoga class. Beginners to seasoned practitioners are welcome!

 

Kids Craft Club

On Tuesdays, 4 p.m., head to Peninsula Library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to join Ms. Lucy in making a beautiful kids craft. For kids ages 6-12.

 

Crochet Club for Kids

On Fridays, January 19 and 26 at 4 p.m., kids ages 8-12 are welcome Peninsula Library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to learn the basics of crocheting and how to make a scarf or handbag. Must call 718-990-8502 to reserve a space.
