Cinco be Mammo

On Thursday, May 2 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., head to the Clinical Learning Center at St. John’s Hospital (19-09 Plainview Ave.) in Far Rockaway for an event celebrating women’s health with breast cancer screenings and other resources. Food, drinks, lectures and more.

 

Queens Bus Redesign Town Hall

On Thursday, May 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., head to Challenge Charter School (15-20 Central Ave) to hear about the MTA’s Queens Bus Redesign plan, and to provide feedback.

 

Rockaway Beach Civic Meeting

On Thursday, May 2 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the monthly Rockaway Beach Civic Meeting. Special guest: Eric Peterson, the Rockaway Administrator for NYC Parks.

 

Belle Harbor Beach Cleanup

On Saturday, May 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., meet at the beach wall at Beach 134th Street to join the BHPOA for a beach clean up from Beach 130th to 141st Streets. Bags and gloves provided. Service credit available for students.

 

Earth Day Rockaway

On Saturday, May 4 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to Beach 60th and Rockaway Freeway to join RISE for free activities and programs for all ages. Live music by Keith Jordan, cooking demos, plantings, face painting, water testing, fire safety, free giveaways, and art-related booths. Sponsored by Joan N. and Norman Bluestone Foundation and PSEG Long Island.

 

World Labyrinth Day

On Saturday, May 4 at 12 p.m., head to the labyrinth at Beach 94th and Shore Front to join Dr. Nancy Gahles for a walk along the labyrinth, with live music by Dorothy Wagner, shamanic drumming by Katrin Haiba and more.

 

Park Pals

On Saturday, May 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a program for young children (ages 0-6) and their caregivers in safe nature exploration. Activities include themed read-alouds, discovery walks led by a Ranger, crafts, and more! Blood Drive

On Sunday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., head to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy (129-16 Beach 129th St.) to donate blood in memory of Walter Blum. 16-year-olds can donate with parental consent and 75+ needs a doctor’s note. Eat and drink before and bring ID.

 

NYC Plover Project Volunteer Training

On Sunday, May 5 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Rockaway Beach Surf Club (302 Beach 87th St.) to shop for Mother’s Day gifts. Plus enjoy tacos at Tacoway Beach!

 

Hangar B Open House at FBF

On Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m., head to Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field to join a Park Ranger for an informal tour and exploration of Hangar B and the aircraft inside, which are part of aviation history.

On Saturdays at 11 a.m., head to Beach 60th and the boardwalk to join Gloria for this total-body, non-contact workout for all fitness levels.

 

Crochet Club for Kids

On Fridays at 4 p.m., kids ages 6-11 are welcome Peninsula Library (92-25 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) to learn the basics of crocheting and how to make a scarf or handbag. Must call 718-634-1110 to reserve a space.
