What Gives
Dear Editor:
Thank you for letting us know about the upcoming work by Michels, the contractor in charge of the reinforced dunes project.
As is perfectly obvious, we have not had harsh winters here for many, many years. That said, it baffles, annoys and angers me that their plans are to abandon the Rockaways for November, December, January, February and March – only to return when the weather starts to warm up and most likely carry on with their duties again May, June, July, August and September. What is so important now? To leave and return during those parameters? What is more important than the Rockaways? This is backwards thinking and selfish. I am particularly referring to streets 116 to 126. We have already had to withstand three summer seasons ruined with their ugly and obtrusive machinery banging and beeping, this year even until 1:30 in the morning!
I would like to know “what gives?” How can our voices be heard and heeded? This year was more than enough disturbance; another one would be simply unbearable and logically “AVOIDABLE.”
Let’s see a show of hands – Especially those who live on the boardwalk.
Thank you.
