On Saturday, October 28, the communities in Arverne and Edgemere had two pre-Halloween events filled with pumpkin patches, decorated trunks and treats galore for the children. The first was the 4th Annual Trunk or Treat which was sponsored by Mama Roni and Odessa’s planning. Every year, they bring this family event to the Papa John’s parking lot, where the community decorates their trunks with Halloween spooks, ghosts, goblins and spider webs and hands out treats to children with beautiful costumes. The kids were also able to design their own cupcakes, from Cassey’s Cakes and Cobblers. This year, the trunk-or-treat celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop with a performance by Divisionx Rapper from the Bronx and by Grandma Zombie from Watotoes Entertainment, and music provided by local DJ Floss.
For the second event, Friends of Arverne and Cardozo Park presented their “Annual Pumpkin Harvest Festival ” in Arverne playground. This one was all about the pumpkin patch, provided by Sarah Bruno, a catalyst for Partnership for Parks. Amy Allure, from Allure Art Studio, brought her artistic touch to teach the kids how to create beautiful art on pumpkins. Children painted while Halloween songs like the Monster Mash played in the background. Everyone was offered food and candy.
