Speaking of Groundhog Day, once again, the glass weather protector on the Beach 129th westbound Q22 bus stop shelter was shattered into pieces. A few days later, it was replaced as if nothing had happened. And so the cycle continues. The only explanation that makes sense for this ongoing, extremely unnecessary vandalism is that we have some intense scientific experimentation going on. Well, congratulations. We can safely say that your theory is correct: the glass does, in fact, break. We can even give this new scientific law a name: Moron’s Law. Now that your theory has been proven, we hope your appetite for brainless destruction has been satiated. If it has not, and this happens again, which, unfortunately, feels likely, will the city please replace the glass with something more substantial? Maybe plastic? Maybe nothing at all? Probably not.

Despite Mayor Adam’s veto and his administration’s public campaign to persuade City Council members to flip their votes, the “How Many Stops Act” was overwhelmingly passed on Tuesday, overriding the mayor’s veto. The final vote count passing the bill was 42-9. The new bill will force NYPD officers to document every single encounter they have with the public. As critics of the bill have noted, in a city of over 8 million people, this would likely create a heavy paperwork burden, taking away from an officer’s ability to protect local communities.

St. Francis de Sales is once again remembering its neighbors in need and collecting cans of soup during its annual “Souper Bowl” Collection. They are asking that folks bring a can of soup to church on the day of the big game, Sunday, February 11. Food bins will be located at the back of the church. You can also send soup through Amazon directly to one of the neighboring parishes of St. Camillus, St. Rose of Lima and St. Mary’s Star of the Sea.
