 Let’s Have a Ball! Poseidon’s Prom on April 1

By Bert Sanders

Ladies and gentlemen, mermaids and mermen, funky fish, jubilant jellyfish, and boisterous bottom feeders, the time has come for the annual Poseidon’s Prom. This yearly, nautical themed fundraiser will take place on April Fool’s Day at The Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street). This adult dance party and raffle helps keep our favorite family art parade a staple of September.

This year’s event, “Ship of Fools,” kicks off Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature legendary sea creature “DJ Paddy Tubz” on the ones and twos. The event displays art from local artists, as well as a plethora of raffles from local businesses who show their support for the end of summer strut. There will be a 50/50, as well as raffles from St. James, The Rockaway Hotel, Last Stop, Deirdre Maeves, Betsy’s Bungalow, Pico, Ocean Bliss Yoga, Ocean Etching, Bungalow Bar, Theresa Hoffman, Batesy’s and many more!

Guests are encouraged to dress up in their sexiest sea suits and dresses for the big dance. Years past have featured some phenomenal outfits. The event will culminate with the crowning of the prom king and queen, who will lead September’s parade!  Additionally, a very special award will be given to a member of the team who has shown worthiness to the cause. While the name of this particular Poseidon trophy may not be fit for print in this community publication, for those in the running, it is a very coveted piece of art.

The prom costs 60 dollars, which includes drinks and light bites, as well as an array of entertainment and aquatic vibes. Tickets can be purchased on PoseidonsParade.com, or at the event. If you are a barnacle and cannot make it to the party, you can still purchase tickets on the page in order to support the parade. The money raised helps cover the costs of running the yearly parade. If you are interested in supporting Poseidon’s Parade, reach out to Queen Casey or El Capitan Geoff.

The team would like to thank the community for making the parade a yearly success. The Rockaway Mermaid Brigade also thanks The Knights of Columbus, DJ Paddy Tubz, and all of the generous vendors that help keep us rolling. They can’t wait to see you all at the grand ball!
