Letting Go

Dear Editor:

Though Dr. Galvin’s article on 1/4/24 was written for people about people, recently I had to say goodbye to my beloved cat named Carrie. As many readers know, the loss of a pet can be as painful as the loss of any family member. While I cradled my little cat’s frail body for the last time, I did not fully appreciate until reading the doctor’s column that “the dying no longer feel…discomforts” and “they’re on a solitary journey of separation from their physical body… a beautiful and mysterious journey. Being witness is a gift to cherish.” For me, this information could not have been more timely; and I thank you, Dr. Galvin, for bringing me such great comfort.
